Deputy Principal’s Message

Dear Sirius College Family,

Welcome yet to another magic filled term! When spring is around, I always feel more energetic. Fresh winds blow the listlessness away, and I can start on new tasks and ideas with enthusiasm. It surely has been an enthusiastic term thus far.

It’s always so exciting starting Term 4. As we wrap up the year, we celebrate our learning with end of year performances, assemblies and various activities around the school. I would like to thank our dedicated team of staff, talented students, and supportive family members for making all our events come to life and be so successful. We cannot forget out primary parent club helpers, who are always supporting and working with us. Working in harmony and collaboration, is no doubt, the reason for the success of Sirius College.

This term, some staff are busy preparing for the ‘Give me 5 for Kids’ campaign which is national fundraiser that has been supporting and raising funds for local children’s hospital wards across regional Australia, for the last 25 years. Students have also participated in an exciting fundraising opportunity for the Heart Foundation known as ‘Jump Rope for Heart’. Students surely did a lot of skipping around the college. A key to heart health is also about reducing sugar. I particularly like this video that shows us how to make basic swaps in a lunchbox, to reduce the overall sugar intake in a child’s diet. The Pastoral Care boys’ soccer tournament was also a success with EMP coming first place, congratulations once again! I love students excelling and working towards goals in the sporting, fundraising, art/musical/cultural, and academic fields. Thanking you kindly for supporting such good causes.

During the commencement of the term, we had an engaging seminar for parents on ‘Positive Behaviour Management at Sirius College’. During this session, we shared information on how we effectively tackle any behaviour issues that come up at our college. We do this by having a whole school approach and what we call ‘the five steps’. Students and staff are all aware of the program, and it helps minimise problem behaviours by working towards restorative practices and social cohesion. Thank you for the parents that joined us during the seminar. We endeavour to work towards more parent information seminars in 2019, and wish to strengthen the parent-home connections. If you missed the session and would like to see what it was all about, you may view the slides from the link below.
